Snow on Nest!

At last this cold snap has brought us snow! Some nice views of the nest with a dusting of snow. Does anyone have dates of the earliest snowfall in previous years? I look forward to seeing eagles at the nest in the snow. Enjoy!

I'm in St. Louis for a conference and was checking in on our eagles yesterday, later in the afternoon. It looks like the cam is giving you guys some trouble again.I know how hard yo work to keep it up and running, so I have confidence it will be working soon. The nest, when covered in snow, is one of the most beautiful things I've ever seen! Thanks for everything.

Wow, have not been able to check on the blog lately and am pleasantly surprised to see "active conversation" as well as wonderful videos. Thank you, Patrick ... and thanks to all who participate and keep us up-to-date.

I, too, watched the PBS show and was excited to realize that, through BRI, I had learned much and could relate with first-hand observations. Found the early sex ID puzzling too J ... hope we get some more info on that.

Enjoyed reliving some favorite moments and must add a couple of my own. How many remember the first attempts at flight with the last successful hatching? I will forever have the mental image of the slow motion fall of one eaglet and our deep concern for its welfare. And, who can forget Ms. Mom bopping Mr. Mom over the head a stick!

Keep up the good work and thanks, again, for posting.

16:00 - found eagle in bowl eating ... perhaps plucking feathers.

16:03 - much vocalizing, looking around, back to plucking with occasional vocals.

16:18 - returned to computer and found eagle on Y branch. Eagle departed to the left. I then saw an eagle fly by water side from left to right.

Patrick - this year appears to be the earliest snow. Last year 2007 is happened on Dec 3rd and lasted forever long. In 2006 the first snow was 04Dec, and it warmed up after that. The Farmers Almanac historic shows November to be anywhere between high 30's to 50's.

Dad arrives with prey 3:32pm - calls mom, she doesn't come so he begins to eat. Then she starts calling and arrives at 3:38pm - Dad lets her have her way and he finally leaves at 3:42Pm - Mom eats (after plucking plenty of feathers and calling to Dad - guess she wanted the WHOLE BIRD. She leaves at 4:16pm.

Dad Brings prey at 1532H-Mom enters-leaves at 1617H

Enjoy

Hi!

I loved the snow on the nest, and
that we didn't have any!!! :)

Yesterday, one of the eagles was
on the nest with some unfortunate animal, and he/she started calling and calling, as if telling the mate there was food? At one point the mate did come and sample the dinner, and left. Then, a wee bit later, he/she started calling again, and the eagle threw back it's head and called! I have never seen them do that, personally. It was awesome!!!

Anyone else catch this?

I really so enjoy watching this cam every day. Thank you for all your hard work and dedication to make this possible.

Hello everyone … 11/24/08 …10:56 PM

What a visit we had at the nest today. It looked to me as we had a non-resident eagle visit with company. It was so funny to watch. The Eagle came up from the right of the nest and so did the raven. Then it seemed the Raven was guarding the nest as the Eagle ate and then thought the Eagle would share with him. At 1 point the Raven chased another raven away from the nest as the Eagle continued to eat. Here are 2 gif pictures that I made and the video of the visit.

Are you gonna share?pic

No way! pic

I guess we are getting a bit of a storm tonight. Stay safe everyone and good night. …Peggy

12/6  6:50amThought I'd take a little coffee break and check out the nest this a.m. and was lovin' the quiet water and sunrise.  How lucky to see an eagle fly onto the nest, 'check the fridge'(if you will) but find nothing cached away.  It left within a minute or two. And now the cam has turned to color, the water wonderfully soothing, the eagle still looking for breakfast I assume and now I must away back to work!Is activity down this week or am I just missing it?J in S.P.ME

The nest looks so lonely - there's light snow falling and I hear some wind but it's a beautiful sight. There was lots of chatter earlier in the day but all's quiet now.

BLUE screen greets us with 12º temperature. Maybe the snow and cold temps did a naughty trick on the recording camera.

It was a nice weekend, seeing the snow and a couple of eagle visits.

Thank you BRI and Patrick!

Both cameras out this morning. The refresh cam is just a solid blue and the streaming cam just stays black. Everything worked fine yesterday.
