Webcam perspectives!

Well, although there has been regular and consistent daily activity at the nest of late it is still a slow time of year at the nest site. I thought that because times are a little slow it would be a good chance to reflect on some of our favorite moments observed on the webcam. I welcome short writing segments that describe your most interesting or curious behavioral observations of the eagles? Many thanks for your contributions.

All the Best,
Patrick Keenan

I still can not get the web cam to come up since it was last reactivated. Did you change the proxy settings or something? That is what my computer keeps asking me, if I have the right proxy settings.

I enjoy the clips that some of the viewers post but would love to be able to see it for myself again.

Thanks, Barbara in Indiana

I have been watching for over three years, and the observations have been simultaneously exciting, frustrating, heart-wrenching, joyful, humorous...well, you get the picture. However, I believe one of my favorite moments of the recent season was dad's persistent moving of "THE STICK". I suppose science would call it personification...we eagle watchers tend to do that...but we blogged away about the charming nestorations that dad diligently attempted, only to have mom
move everything to her liking, or so it seemed.I see that recently there was a video posted showing an eagle once again having its way with a stick! Honestly, I believe those two birds are airing a comedy show for us!
My anticipation of the coming season has been heightened as I read about the frequency of visits from our eagle pair. Their past courage and tenacity under some pretty violent Maine weather only makes us love them all the more.
We applaud BRI's dedication to preserving the magnificent wildlife in the area, but most notably for allowing the world to marvel at some of it on the live cam. The eagles, and all they represent, have given all of us inspiration.

Hi Patrick

All of the moments with the eagles are special. However, I really love watching the babies learning to fly. I also love to watch how the parents protect their babies in severe weather. I guess I just enjoy every moment the eagles are in the nest.

PS: Is the cam down? For some reason I can't connect.

I was watching two eagles in the nest yesterday afternoon, Nov.11, at 4:30 p.m. Maine time, and they were both keeping busy with housekeeping and moving sticks around in the nest. At one point one of them reached outside the nest to break off a dead twig from the tree trunk. He/she was successful and placed the twig in just the right place in the nest. The other eagle soon flew away, and the one eagle continued to work on the nest. It flew up onto a branch on the left side of the camera and began to work on pulling/breaking off a small branch that apparently wasn't brittle enough to immediately detach. A lot of pulling and stretching was going on, and suddenly the bird lost its balance and went tumbling down from the tree. I heard a few calls from either the unlucky bird or its partner immediately following the accident, but nothing more in the way of action. Did anyone else see this happen?

Hi all, we have not changed any of the cam settings. It might be worth trying to get the stream in a different web browser but I am not sure if that will help. I'll think about it and ask around. Perhaps others have found a solution.

All the Best,
Patrick

Hi all,
As a newer cam viewer favorite moment from the cam came recently. After a long day I set myself down at dusk and decided to check on the nest in the hopes of a late evening eagle visit. Well, it was darkening and cold and the nest looked lonely. It was October. Suddenly, I heard the mournful cry of a loon in the distance...the sound was as clear as crystal but there was no loon in my living room.
Thanks for sharing,
Patrick

Thanks for the great videos, GG. I hope Dad didn't get hurt when he took his tumble. Oh, the indignity of it all! LOL. Where's Wing these days? Hope he's ok.

Hello everyone, 10:56 PM
One unique moment on the nest was on May 09, 2008 dad was sitting up on the Y branch when a crocking Raven approached the nest. Dad crying out as the Raven sits, takes a break and fly’s away. Here is the reflecting video. On March 27, 2008 mom and dad were in the nest. Dad starts some nestorations and mom gives him a bit of a boost. Here is the reflecting video. On April 15, 2007 mom lies low in nest trying to protect her eaglet from an owl that has already tried an attack. The Owl fly’s in for the second time and mom jumps up and gives an alarming call at it as it does a fly by. Mom cries out to dad and he comes into the nest to help mom from future attacks. For the third time the owl does another fly by in hopes get himself some prey but dad screeches out at him as the owl flies by. Dad stays in the nest that night with mom and eaglet. Reflecting video by klbak These have been outstanding moments for me and there are many more!

Well dang! It's only 6:30 in the morning and an eagle has been on the nest twice already, this last time with food - and I have no live feed!! It was in & out yesterday as well.

I think my favorite nest moments have been when this massive raptor feeds tiny bits of food to its young. The contrast of helpless furry bird to its large powerful parent is humbling at best.
And on a lighter note, dad working on that twig on our left lately has been hysterical. How many of you laughed out loud when you saw it or the video?
Let us watch our legislators closely to be sure they work to protect our environment. Let your voice be heard...they work for you!

Thanks Patrick, it was fun for us to be asked a question...we're always throwing them at you!

Over the last 2 years ther have been so many wonderful moments and heart breaking ones too. One exciting night they were defending the nest from an owl attack. The nor easter storms were a roller coaster ride with many tears in the end. This web site has taught me so much about our wonderful eagles. But the best for me is showing my 8 yr old daughter all the wonders of nature. It is such a great learning tool for children and adults alike. We can't thank you enough for all you do to give us this beautiful window into the eagles nest. Deb in Pa.

Nov. 13 @ 1:17 pm est.

Just saw an eagle on the nest. Only stayed for a few minutes, had a poo and then flew off. I think it was Mom because of the thick ruff.

Male eagle flew in with prey and ate alone. It appeared to be a bird, as he had to pluck feathers and was swiney.

I think that there are several people who were using the old link to the web cam as I was up until it quit working a few weeks ago. It was a bigger window than this new one and much nicer for viewing, oh well, a small window is better than no window, here's the current link: http://www.briloon.org/watching-wildlife/eagle-cam.php

So yesterday I let you know that I was unable to get a live feed early in the morning - when I checked back at 10:30ish I had a live feed and did for the rest of the day. Now it's early morn again and I have no live feed.....do you 'turn it on' at a certain time or am I messed up? I'm a very early riser and sure miss hearing those wake up sounds from the nest.
